Extra Credit Opportunity - M.C. Escher - Worth 20 Points

Extra Credit Essay - Life and Artwork of M.C. Escher

Find from the library a book on M.C. Escher, and write a four paragraph essay on his life and artwork.

Paragraph 1 - Include information about when he was born, where he lived, and information about his life.

Paragraph 2 - Describe 2 famous artworks he created.

Paragraph 3 - Define "Tessellation," and explain how is relates to Mathematics.

Paragraph 4 - What do you think of M.C. Escher?  Do you think he is a good artist?  Why or why not?  Do you like his artwork?  Why or why not?

Each paragraph is worth up to 5 points.  (1 point per sentence.)

Extra Credit Opportunity - Cubism - Worth 20 Points

Extra Credit Essay - Life and Artwork of Picasso

Find from the library a book on Pablo Picasso, and write a four paragraph essay on his life and artwork.

Paragraph 1 - Include information about when he was born, where he lived, and information about his life.

Paragraph 2 - Describe famous artworks he created.

Paragraph 3 - Include in the essay a definition of Cubism.  Answer the question, how does his artwork fit the Cubism style.  Answer the question: was all of his artwork Cubist in style?  Or was some of his artwork more realistic?

Paragraph 4 - What do you think of Picasso?  Do you think he is a good artist?  Why or why not?  Do you like his artwork?  Why or why not?

Now try drawing a building in 2 Point Perspective and color with colored pencils.  It will be scored according to the rules below.

Colored Pencil - Up to 10 points for coloring completely.

Drawing - Up to 10 points based on completeness, accuracy (proper use of vanishing point, horizon line and orthogonals), and creativity.

Color Wheel Poster due 11/18/14 - Grade 8

Please see the attached blank worksheet, and attached finished product.  Download and print the worksheet, and color the wheel using ONLY red, yellow and blue colored pencils.  Layer the colors to mix them and create all other colors needed.  Re-copy the definitions as shown on the sample.  33 Points possible (1 point per definition, 1 point per colored shape).
